Mobile-First Index, Voice Search, and other SEO Trends for 2018

Digital Assistants and Other 2018 SEO Trends

Links have been an integral part of SEO since Google created PageRank in 1996.

But times are changing, and search engines have evolved. 1 out of 5 searches come from voice queries using AI powered digital assistants such as Siri, Google Assistant, Cortana, and Alexa.

In addition, Google recently started migrating sites that follow the best practices for mobile-first indexing. The mobile-first index is one of the most anticipated events during 2018. Many websites have already felt its effect on their website’s rankings in search results.

To recap, our crawling, indexing, and ranking systems have typically used the desktop version of a page’s content, which may cause issues for mobile searchers when that version is vastly different from the mobile version. Mobile-first indexing means that we’ll use the mobile version of the page for indexing and ranking, to better help our – primarily mobile – users find what they’re looking for. ~ Google Webmaster Central
